Iron Paste No. 1

A controlled, low-mess way to season, condition, and maintain cast iron cookware.

Vulpes Supply House Iron Paste No. 1 is a semi-solid cast iron conditioning wax made from mineral oil, beeswax, grapeseed oil, fractionated coconut oil, and vitamin E.

The paste consistency makes it easier to apply a thin, even layer than pouring liquid oil directly into a pan. It spreads smoothly across the cooking surface, sidewalls, handles, and exterior, helping you avoid the heavy application that can leave cast iron sticky, blotchy, or unevenly seasoned.

Use it for routine maintenance after cleaning or as part of the seasoning process for skillets, Dutch ovens, griddles, and other bare cast iron cookware.

Good iron lasts. Neglected iron rusts. Ownership is maintenance.

Why Use Iron Paste?

Traditional liquid oil works, but it is easy to apply too much. Excess oil can pool in corners, create sticky patches, smoke excessively, and produce an uneven finish.

Iron Paste No. 1 gives you more control.

Its semi-solid texture allows you to apply a very thin coat exactly where it is needed. Beeswax helps hold the oils in place during application, while the oil blend conditions the iron and supports ongoing seasoning maintenance.

The goal is not to bury the pan under grease. The goal is to leave behind the thinnest possible film.

Do not use it as a universal metal polish. It is made specifically for bare cast iron care.

How to Use for Routine Maintenance

1. Clean the Iron

Clean the cookware using your normal cast iron care method. Remove food residue and any loose rust or buildup.

2. Dry Completely

Dry the cookware immediately. Warm it briefly over low heat if needed to drive off remaining moisture.

Do not apply the paste to wet iron.

3. Apply a Small Amount

Place a small amount of Iron Paste No. 1 onto a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel.

Apply an extremely thin layer over the cooking surface, sidewalls, rim, handle, and exterior.

4. Buff Away the Excess

Use a clean cloth to wipe the cookware thoroughly.

When you think you have removed enough, wipe it again. The iron should look conditioned, not wet or greasy.

5. Store Properly

Store the cookware in a dry location. Leave the lid slightly open or place a folded towel between the cookware and lid so trapped moisture can escape.

How to Use for Oven Seasoning

  1. Clean and completely dry the cast iron.
  2. Warm the cookware slightly so the paste spreads easily.
  3. Apply a very thin coat over all bare iron surfaces.
  4. Buff aggressively until the surface looks nearly dry.
  5. Place the cookware upside down in the oven with a sheet pan or foil below it.
  6. Heat according to your preferred cast iron seasoning process.
  7. Allow the cookware to cool before handling.
  8. Repeat with additional thin coats when deeper seasoning is needed.

The exact oven temperature and timing should follow the cookware manufacturer’s instructions. Different oils and cookware makers recommend different seasoning procedures, so do not pretend there is one magic temperature for every pan.

The Most Important Rule

Use less than you think you need.

A thick coating does not create better seasoning. It creates sticky residue, uneven polymerization, and unnecessary smoke.

Iron Paste No. 1 is designed to help you apply a controlled film, but the product cannot compensate for careless overapplication.
